Frequently Asked Questions

Why have Maternity pictures taken?
Here's a little fact that may surprise you: Many of the pregnant mothers we photograph are at some point hesitant about having their photographs taken. While some take to pregnancy very well, it's not uncommon to feel uncomfortable in your changing body . And as someone who's been there (twice) and done that, I know that bloating and dry skin and general discomfort are real issues to content with.
But let me fill you in on a not-so-secret secret. You and your growing child? Beautiful. There' a glow about you during pregnancy that can never be recreated. Right now you're a type of beautiful that is literally impossible to replicate. Unless, of course, you become pregnant again! The light from within, the fact that your best friend is developing inside of you, all of that makes for some of the most beautiful images you could imagine. What I'm saying is that you shouldn't let your discomfort stop you from getting maternity photos. You may regret it if you don't have those images to look back on in the years to come.
Once we actually begin your maternity session, we'll make sure you're absolutely comfortable. We'll try all sorts of different poses and angles and you'll have ample time to change into different outfits, as well. And we'll only photograph what you want captured. We can do bare baby bumps or clothed bumps. We can do soft and romantic images or vibrant and splashy shots. We'll definitely customize everything to your needs and desires.
Why have newborn pictures taken?
Those adorable chubby cheeks, wiggling toes and tufts of soft hair? Their coos and sighs? The way they look at you in fascination as they're trying to figure out the world? Or the way they grab momma or pappa's fingers and hold on tightly?
I mean, can we all collectively agree that newborns are, like, the cutest things on the planet?
We always suggest getting newborn photographs within the first two weeks of your child's birth. We know that's a hectic time for new parents, but hear me out. Those early days are life changing for everyone involved. By scheduling your newborn session early on (even within the first three days of birth), I'm there to capture all the feelings and emotions you and your baby are going through.
Babies also change a lot -- even within the first few weeks. Getting your newborn photographs as soon as possible ensures we capture that "newborn look" and all those moments.
On your session day, we'll capture photographs of just your newborn (and all his or her adorable features) and also images of you and your partner with your newborn. We may even have time to get images of any siblings!
Why is it so important to do newborn photos within the first week or two?
All newborns have a certain "look" to them. Usually within a week or two, that newborn-like quality starts to disappear. The point of newborn photos is to capture that newborn look, so we always recommend photographing as early as possible.
Do I have control over what images you take or share?
Of course. We will not take any photographs that you do not feel comfortable with. That goes for maternity, newborn and any other sessions. Also, if you're not comfortable with sharing images on social media or blogs, we certainly would not do so.
Will you come to my home?
All sessions will either be in studio or at outdoor locations for themed sessions. This is done purposefully to maximize lighting, setup and ensures you get quality shots in an efficient manner.
When should I have my maternity photos taken?
We think some of the best maternity photos are taken between the seven and eight month mark. this is when you're really showing, but isn't so close to your due date that you're really uncomfortable.
How many weeks is ideal for a maternity session?
Maternity sessions are typically done between 30 and 37 weeks. The timing is different for everyone and we recommend that you don’t wait too late because you will never know when the baby will actually come.
How soon should I schedule my session?
It’s never too early to schedule your maternity session. Sometimes I can accommodate last minute requests, but we recommend a 4-6 week notice. I usually book most of maternity sessions on weekends so if you would like a weekend appointment it is important to book early as Saturdays and Sundays are booked fast.
